CompareWise Privacy Policy
This Privacy Policy explains how CompareWise collects, uses, stores, and shares information when you use the CompareWise browser extension and related services.
CompareWise is a browser extension that helps users compare user-selected product pages, pricing pages, plan pages, and offer pages. It extracts visible page content from pages the user chooses, sends that content to our backend for analysis, and returns a structured comparison result.
Who this policy applies to
This policy applies to the CompareWise browser extension, the CompareWise workspace and history pages, and related backend services used to authenticate users, store comparison history, manage credits, and generate AI-assisted comparison results.
Information CompareWise collects
1. Account and authentication information
- Email address used to sign in
- Authentication and session tokens needed to keep you signed in
- Internal account and installation identifiers
2. Selected tab and comparison data
- URLs and titles of pages you select for comparison
- Domains of selected pages
- Your selected tab IDs inside the extension
- Your buying priorities note, if you enter one
3. Website content from user-selected pages
- Visible page text extracted from selected pages
- Headings, pricing snippets, and related extracted comparison evidence
- Structured comparison results generated from that extracted page content
4. Saved history and usage state
- Saved comparison results tied to your account
- Notes you add to saved comparisons
- Temporary local extension state such as cached snapshots and active comparison progress
How CompareWise collects information
- From pages you explicitly add with Add Page
- From tabs you explicitly select and run through the comparison flow
- From information you enter into the extension, such as buying priorities or saved notes
- From authentication and account actions you take
CompareWise does not continuously monitor all browsing. It reads page content only from pages you explicitly choose for comparison or add through the extension flow.
How CompareWise uses information
- To sign you in and keep your session active
- To read and compare the pages you selected
- To generate structured comparison outputs, verdicts, recommendations, and tradeoff summaries
- To save completed comparisons to your account history
- To reopen prior comparisons and restore extension state
- To manage credits, service reliability, and abuse prevention
How CompareWise shares information
CompareWise shares data only as needed to operate the extension.
- Extracted page content and related comparison inputs are sent to our backend so CompareWise can generate comparison results, save history, manage credits, and support signed-in use.
- Our backend uses OpenAI to process selected page content and generate comparison outputs.
- CompareWise also uses CodingMall-controlled pages for sign-in and related account flows.
We do not sell personal information collected through CompareWise. We do not use or transfer user data for advertising, creditworthiness evaluation, lending decisions, or unrelated purposes outside CompareWise's functionality.
Local storage and retained data
CompareWise stores some information locally in your browser so the extension can preserve your current selection, reuse captured page snapshots, keep track of active comparison progress, and restore recent state when you reopen the extension.
CompareWise also stores saved comparison history on the backend when you complete a comparison while signed in.
Data retention
- Local extension state is retained until it is overwritten, cleared by the extension, or removed when you uninstall the extension or clear extension storage.
- Saved account-backed comparison history is retained until deleted or removed through product or administrative processes.
- Authentication data is retained only as long as needed to operate signed-in access and account features.
Your choices
- You choose which pages to add or compare.
- You can avoid comparing a page by not selecting it.
- You can sign out of CompareWise.
- You can remove the extension, which removes locally stored extension data from your browser.
Security
We use reasonable measures intended to protect the information processed by CompareWise. No system can guarantee absolute security, and you should avoid using the extension to process sensitive information that is not necessary for its comparison purpose.
Children
CompareWise is not directed to children, and we do not knowingly design it for use by children.
Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. If we make a material change, we may revise the effective date above and publish the updated policy.
